At City Hotel Thimphu, true hospitality means caring for our guests, our community, and the beautiful land we call home. We take simple, practical steps every day to protect Bhutan’s environment and support the people around us.
We reduce our footprint through energy-efficient lighting, responsible electricity use, and designs that maximise natural light and ventilation.
We conserve water through low-flow showerheads, dual-flush systems, a linen & towel reuse programme, and regular leak monitoring.
We segregate waste, we partner with Druk Mawongpa Farm to repurpose food scraps as animal feed, collected used cooking oil is donated to Bio Bhutan for production of high-quality dish washing soap, recycle materials, and use refillable bathroom dispensers to cut single-use plastic.
Replaced hotel items — linen, equipment, bathroom fittings and electronic items — are donated to Pagar Monastery so they continue serving a meaningful purpose, reducing waste while supporting learning for the monks.
We proudly partner with Bhutanese producers and small businesses, sourcing local food and supplies to support local livelihoods and bring an authentic taste of Bhutan to our guests.
Sustainability is not a destination — it is a journey. Through these everyday choices, we strive to preserve Bhutan’s natural beauty, uphold the values of Gross National Happiness, and honour the place we are proud to call home.
